Defining Normality and Abnormality

چکیده

Much of the practice and research conducted by clinical psychologists focuses on abnormality, also known as mental disorders, psychiatric diagnoses, or, more broadly, psychopathology. Through their training and their professional activities, clinical psychologists become very familiar with the definitions of various forms of abnormal behavior and the ways it differs from normal behavior. But before these diagnostic categories are put to use by clinicians and scholars, they must be defined. 7

Evaluation of Cardiovascular Disease Risk in the China Kadoorie Biobank Using Novelty Detection

We evaluate the risks of cardiovascular disease to the Chinese population by i) detecting ”abnormality” using 3 one-class classification methods (a discriminative one-class support vector machine (SVM), a generative kernel density estimate (KDE), and a discriminative KDE), and ii) predicting probabilities of ”normality”, arrhythmia, and ischemia using 3class classification method (a discriminat...

Critically assess attempts to distinguish psychological normality and abnormality

The abnormality as a deviation-from-the-average definition sees abnormality as statistically infrequent behaviour. Yet this does not distinguish between desirable and undesirable behaviour. Some behaviour can be seen as desirable yet be statistically infrequent, e.g. creative genius. Also there are behaviours that are so common that they are regarded as being statistically frequent, yet are cat...

SOME EFFECTS OF PROPERTY Np ON THE HIGHER NORMALITY AND DEFINING EQUATIONS OF NONLINEARLY NORMAL VARIETIES

For a smooth projective variety X ⊂ P embedded by the complete linear system, Property Np has been studied for a long time([5], [11], [12], [10] etc). On the other hand, Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity conjecture and related problems have been focused for a projective variety which is not necessarily linearly normal([2], [13], [15], [17], [20] etc). This paper aims to explain the influence of Pr...

Asymptotic normality of fringe subtrees and additive functionals in conditioned Galton – Watson trees . ( Extended abstract )

We consider conditioned Galton–Watson trees and show asymptotic normality of additive functionals that are defined by toll functions that are not too large. This includes, as a special case, asymptotic normality of the number of fringe subtrees isomorphic to any given tree, and joint asymptotic normality for several such subtree counts. The offspring distribution defining the random tree is ass...
